Liver Detoxification and its Connection to GI Health
By Jason Sailesh Dave, NMD, MS
More Americans are afflicted with GI disorders than the combined total of most other chronic diseases. Liver detoxification is the first critical step in helping the clinician to unmask and address the true underlying causes of GI disorders. If this step is not performed, the clinician may be more inclined to perform more expensive and invasive testing.

Naturopathic Support of Breast Cancer Therapy
By Aminah Keats, ND
Naturopathic medicine makes use of time-tested, scientifically grounded, natural methods to strengthen the body’s ability to heal itself, augment the patient’s immune system, increase the effectiveness of conventional treatments, and reduce side effects sometimes associated with those treatments. The goal of naturopathic medicine is to create a healthy environment both inside and outside the body, making it especially significant for people with cancer. It is important to remember that vitamins, minerals, herbs, and other therapies can have significant benefit for patients but also have the potential to be unsafe if used incorrectly.  Some concerns involve possible interaction with chemotherapy and or radiation, increased bleeding with surgery, interactions with other medications, and straining the liver and or kidneys if they are diseased.  Aminah Keats, ND will discuss how Naturopathic therapies can be supportive to people living with cancer.  She will specifically discuss evidence-based therapies for support of patients receiving chemotherapy, radiation therapy, hormone therapy and monoclonal antibodies for breast cancer.

Compounding Pharmacies and Naturopathic Medicine: Working Together for Better Health
By Scott Berliner, RPh
When it comes to natural health, naturopathic physicians and compounding pharmacists can work together to provide each patient with the most up to date and comprehensive care available. Over the past few years there have been many advances made in the world of compounded ingredients to tackle a variety of illnesses. Some of the areas that will be covered in this presentation include:
  • Nutrients for cancer prevention
  • Standard of care conventional therapies, such as chemotherapy and radiation and the depletion of nutrients
  • Hormone restoration therapy
  • Topical and oral DHEA
  • Ingredient interactions and contraindications
  • Pain management
  • E-prescribing
  • Services available to NDs through your compounding pharmacist

Introduction to Core Energetics
By Robin Cameron, LMSW
Core Energetics (CE) is based on the concept that our bodies are our “frozen histories.”  Early frustrations, indulgences or traumas result in rigid belief systems and chronic muscular tensions (“blocks”), both which helped us to manage our environment and avoid intolerable feelings. Blocks and other disturbances in our energy cause pain, injury and patterns of behavior that can be extremely perplexing.  CE uses movement to address chronic patterns of tension, while always seeking to develop consciousness to understand why these tensions originally developed.

In this presentation Ms. Robin Cameron, LMSW and mind/body psychotherapist will introduce the concepts of CE, give specific demonstrations of how certain theories are applied and how some of the techniques are used in practice.

Naturopathic medicine is based on the belief that the human body has an innate healing ability.  The underlying philosophy of CE is that our bodies are designed with the capacity to heal ourselves and others, and our work as practitioners is to remove the mental and physical/energetic blocks to this natural, self-healing process.  Robin will discuss how CE harmoniously overlaps with the main tenets of Naturopathic Medicine, and ways that ND’s can begin to think about how CE may assist them in assessing and working with their clients.

Infectious Glutenitis - Epidemic of the 21st Century
By Steve Nenninger, ND, NMD, CDN
In this presentation, Dr. Steve Nenninger will share everything he has learned about the most powerful dietary obstacle to healing: GLUTEN.  This presentation is a detailed look at the cross infectious effects of gluten sensitivity, including the epidemiology, etiology and pathophysiology of glutenitis.  The in vivo psychoneurobiochemistry will be reviewed in addition to the appropriate Naturopathic pharmaceutical interventions.

Autism Therapy Review

By Jared Skowron, ND
Autism is a multi-organ condition, centered around neurological symptoms, but including alterations in the gastrointestinal system, endocrine system, immune system, and others. A pathophysiological review will be discussed of current autism knowledge along with functional imbalances in nutritional levels, gastrointestinal infections, hormone and neurotransmitter imbalances. Treatment protocols and therapeutic options will be reviewed allowing for the best improvement in all autistic cases.

A review of the physiological changes in autism will be reviewed concurrently with the appropriate testing to monitor and follow treatment. Protocols of therapies will be discussed along with case studies that show individualized treatment based on individual presentation of one condition, but a spectrum of patients. Participants will be prepared to order appropriate labwork and prescribe appropriate treatment to improve the quality of life of autistic children and their families.
